5 Minutes with Erica Brooke

5 Minutes with Erica Brooke

In the next edition of our client interview series we have the incredible Erica Schofield, founder and wizard of Erica Brooke Skincare. I sat down with her to chat all things self-care, sweet potato and that famous serum…

What is your definition of self-care and what's your ultimate self-care ritual?

My definition of self-care is a commitment to yourself.

It would start with a day off for sure and maybe a facial at somewhere like Raw Beauty or Kindred Toxin Free, then a yoga class, a nap, and a nice dinner out – without my kids...! However, that doesn't happen very often these days. We need more self-care than that, so something easy I do every day is give myself a mini facial and a good face massage. It’s amazing at getting the blood pumping – like a workout for your face!

What is Emerald Elixir, and why do we love it so much?!

The Emerald Elixir is a luxe addition to your skincare routine – it's an all-natural water-based serum, feather light and silky smooth. It’s full of nourishing and anti-ageing ingredients like natural caffeine, blue spirulina, B3, Kakadu Plum and Co Enzyme Q10. It's really the whole package – anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing, helps to reduce scaring and age spots, adds moisture without weighing you down, and helps your skins collagen production.

And the results really do speak for themselves!

Why natural/non-toxic products?

Because they work better than the toxic alternatives and we also now know what ingredients like parabens and synthetic fragrances can do to us. There is so much choice available now and the beautiful thing about that is when you buy organic and natural products you're more than likely supporting small business. There is this amazing green/eco shift happening in the beauty world right now and it's an honour to be a part of it.

Three favourite foods?

  • My homemade sweet potato chips
  • My hubby's green curry
  • … and anything my Lebanese mother-in-law cooks – yum!

What is your ultimate holiday destination and why?

We are about to go on our first family holiday ever! We are going to Kangaroo Island off the South Australian coast. It's beautiful and wild, the waters and beaches are so clean and there is so much wildlife. Right now that is my ultimate destination, but of course there is a long list of other places I want to visit – Portugal, New York, France, Africa, New Zealand… the list is long and diverse!

Favourite beauty/skincare product?

Right now it's the Emerald Elixir, of course, and my daily go-to is the Precious Face Oil.

What are you reading right now?

I have a few on the go most of the time. I’m reading The Law of Divine Compensation (my second read – it's that good) and Game of Thrones (although this only gets read in my spare time and there is not much of that these days).

Last song played on your Spotify / iTunes?

Where is the Love? – Black Eyed Peas

The best piece of advice you ever received?

Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

On the weekend you're most likely to be…?

At the farmers markets either moonlighting as a barista or with my own stall – depends what week it is.

Home is…?

Born in Adelaide, grew up in Byron but Brisbane is home now.
