One of the best things about what Lily and I do at Kindred Toxin Free Facials is that we are able to help clients and friends of Kindred make better choices about their skin and see results. I've had 21 years experience in skin and both Lily are always updating our skill set with advanced skin trainings. My passion and dedication for sourcing incredible green ingredients from various organic brands, lymphatic massage, mindfulness, as well as using proven machines like Dermalux Led and Exceed skin needling, give us the tools we need to support you and your skin, ongoing!
In this blog, we wanted to share some of the questions we are most frequently asked by clients (don’t worry, no names are named!).
What are the best cleansers for winter?
Like all answers we give to clients, the best cleanser for you will be based on your skin type and what’s happening at any given time. That said, during the cooler months our skin can be more delicate and easily irritated from exposure to wind, cold and being in and out of heating. You can’t go wrong with the Miskin Smooth Oil Cleanser (it is great all year round) and adding in a gentle lactic acid cleanser like our favourite Quite Frankly Natural range.
Do I really need a mist?
Well, need is subjective isn’t it? It's often the missing step when people feel dehydrated and keep using more oils. While you might not think a mist is doing that much for your skin routine, the reason we love the mists we use in the salon and recommend, are their ability to prepare the skin for the treatment products that follow after you cleanse. Think of it as a gentle toner to help prime and hydrate your skin for the serum and moisturiser and ensure it is absorbing. Many of our mists have a combination to cool and calm skin as well as hyaluronic acid, a humectant to keep your skin feeling feeling hydrated and b3 niacinamide to help with inflammation, acne and scarring, amongst a host of other goodies!
How often should I get a facial?
We work with clients on an individual basis. Some clients benefit from a facial every month, while others might opt for once every two months. If we are working toward Collagen Induction Therapy, we may need to work more intensely with you, and include regular dermalux Led sessions too.
If you are working towards a special occasion we can work with you to tailor a program and schedule for optimal results. For example, if you are a bride-to-be, we offer three and six month programs to get your skin glowing for your big day with a monthly facial in the months leading up to your wedding or big day and one facial each week in the month prior to the day.
Do I need a serum, moisturiser, oil and a balm?
What you need (as with all skincare) depends on your individual needs and can change throughout the year. We will usually recommend at least two of these three items and generally one will be for use in the morning and one will be for your evening routine.
A good general rule of thumb:
Ultimately, which you use and in what combination depends on your skin goals which is why we do advocate coming and seeing us for a skin consultation, which is available in the studio, or online, so you can use what is best for your needs.
How do I get rid of redness on my cheeks?
There’s unfortunately no magic bullet for reducing redness in your cheeks as it depends on how it started and what the root cause is. For example, is it an irritation or a reaction to something? Or is it hereditary or vascular (blood vessel) damage. I love using LED light therapy to help support the skin’s repair and pair that with products like Biologi BF, anti-inflammatory skin shot, calm oil and Anahata balm. Once you have repaired your barrier, we can also look into Collagen induction therapy ( micro-needling) . We suggest getting yourself on internal powders like this incredible gut health and collagen powder ( in PROVEN amounts!) ULTIMATE 1.0 Complete Food Skin Elixir . We also work with Naturopaths and Nutritionists as a team to get results!
How do I get rid of scarring?
Again, this is an individual thing depending on the severity of scarring. That said, supporting your skin with internal collagen from this incredible and proven gut health and collagen powder and broths paired with gentle microdermabrasion and gua sha massage with a healing serum like Biologi BQK and high potency Mohi oil/ ACE oil can have great results. If someone is seeking more of a treatment we have seen clients get incredible results with Dermalux Led and holistic skin needling and we can talk more to clients about this as there is a process and protocol that you need to undertake to ensure we keep your skins . We highly recommend getting on Essential Fatty Acids ( our favourite brand is Nordic Naturals, Complete Omega 3, 6 and 9 with GLA)
How can I improve my forehead lines?
Lines can be hereditary but you can help improve the appearance by limiting sugar in your diet, ensure you’re drinking enough water (this can include herbal teas , our gut and collagen powder and broths) as well as and nightly gua sha massages at night when applying your serum or oils. You can also look into our dermalux LED, especially RED 633NM proven to
• Increases collagen and elastin synthesis
• Reduces fine lines
• Improves complexion, texture and tone
• Increases natural hydration
• Stimulates circulation and lymphatic system
• Revitalises and restores radiance
and then onto our Holistic Skin needling which is also proven (We have invested in the EXCEED Skin needling system) and advanced training with Skin Education International.
How can I improve my skin hydration levels?
The answer to this is so simple and there’s a reason why most beauty tips and tricks or skincare hacks all say the same thing. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water (2-3L per day) and we highly recommend collagen and gut health supplement, as well as EFAS (from fish oils supplements and food). Topically, products like Biologi BF, one of our mists which have hyaluronic acid to help keep moisture in and attract hydration, or a nightly oil elixir or balm are great. We always recommend getting a full consultation with us, so we can start getting you great results, we have these online and in the salon. BOOK HERE
What are good fats and why do I need them for glowing skin?
Good fats are things like fish oil ( and from supplements like nordic naturals, cod liver oil, salmon, sardines, mackerel, ghee, and a personal favourite cacao butter. Incorporating these into your diet helps improve the quality of your skin’s sebum which can often mean less breakouts, helps support better skin hydration and strengthens your skin’s cell structure. In other words, they make your skin glow!
